About this Work
"In naming my works, I use a numerical code. '2' represents 'concentric circles + disruption.' Squares were an early adaptation of this idea, before I even realized it was a known illusion which appears to distort the straight edges of the square. This painting is one of the first times I added multiple squares and disrupted the color of a gradient within those sections. Working from the outside inward, I started with the darkest color for each new gradient, but gradually lightened the darkest color to start so it got lighter and lighter toward the center. To this day, this is one of my favorite paintings on paper."
